The Community
Creating a destination. Building a community.
The Citrus Club at La Quinta Resort is part of the history and culture of an area long revered as a sacred place. Located on and around the grounds that gave rise to its ancient inhabitants, the Desert Cahuilla Native Americans, the land now called La Quinta has always had a natural beauty and mystique of its own. To this day, historians have found remnants in the form of pottery shards, fish traps and petroglyphs in the areas around the Santa Rosa Mountains. Early homesteaders found that agriculture – and later, hospitality – could thrive in a land whose year-round near perfect climate and sunshine graced the protected enclave.
From the legendary opening of The La Quinta Hotel in 1926, for many decades the secluded getaway for Hollywood’s most famous celebrities, to today, the resort has been the crowning jewel in the community named the “Gem of the Desert” which developed around it.
Incorporated in 1982, La Quinta’s strategy for growth and development has created a preferred destination with shopping, dining and all manner of recreational pursuits. With the official opening of PGA WEST in 1986, La Quinta became one of the most celebrated golf destinations in the world.
Today, with Old Town Village as a premiere tourist destination, La Quinta offers some of the finest boutiques, restaurants and cultural events anywhere. All complemented by the natural splendor of hiking trails, biking paths, parks and an abundance of sightseeing attractions. And of course, the world famous Career Builder Challenge Golf Tournament (formerly the Bob Hope Classic & Humana Challenge ) which draws worldwide visitors to PGA WEST and surrounding courses.
What remains a constant is that throughout its growth, La Quinta has preserved and showcased its historical roots with the architecture and pedestrian-friendly streets of Old Town. Here, building community is a way of life, evident to both visitors and residents alike. Located some 30 minutes from Palm Springs in Southern California’s Coachella Valley, the “Gem of the Desert” has never shined brighter.
